Case 13769
Nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is one of my favorite procedures. I learned multiple rhinoplasty techniques during my fellowship with Dr. Guy Watts in Perth Australia. There are many steps involved and each one has an impact on the outcome. Planning is everything. A well performed rhinoplasty will improve both the appearance of the nose and its function (breathing). With nose surgery the two features (aesthetics and function) are intimately related.
The procedure can be done ‘open’ or ‘closed’. This patient had an ‘open’ rhinoplasty. The scar is well hidden along the columella (the thin structure between the two nostrils). Once the structures in the nose are exposed and identified they are repaired, made symmetrical, and augmented with shaped pieces of cartilage (grafts). The nose may not tolerate multiple procedures. Your best chance for an amazing result is with the first surgery. Make sure to do your research, communicate your expectations with your surgeon, and see a board certified plastic surgeon.
This 24-year-old woman underwent septorhinoplasty with spreader grafts to improve the function and the appearance of her nose.
Case 4608
Rhinophyma is a skin disorder that causes the nose to become enlarged and bulbous. It occurs in people with rosacea . The nose may look red, swollen, and distorted.
Surgery may be the best option for treatment of rhinophyma. When performed early on it may prevent permanent disfigurement.
This 87 year old man had surgery for his rhinophyma 6 years ago by Dr Anzarut . His result is stable and the condition has not progressed.
During the procedure the excess glandular tissue is removed. Recovery occurs over the following 1-2 weeks. The final result of plastic surgery skin procedures takes 9-12 months to stabilize.
When considering plastic surgery do your homework and check to see whether she or he is a board certified plastic surgeon . In order to be a plastic surgeon in Canada one must complete a minimum 5 year residency in plastic surgery and successfully complete the Royal College Examination in the specialty of plastic surgery.
Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty, not a technique or 6 month course. Most plastic surgeons are members of the canadian society of plastic surgeons (csps) or the american society of plastic surgery (asps).
